The buzz is continuing to build for next week’s Latin Grammys and ChoQuibTown is a top contender. The Colombian hip-hop trio is up for three awards this year and, as member Carlos Valencia told us, they couldn’t be more excited.

"We are so thrilled about all of the nominations we got this year," he said in our exclusive interview. "Just being recognized by the Latin Grammys is one of the biggest thrills of our career!"

And this is hardly the first time that the Latin Grammys have paid attention to ChoQuibTown. Back in 2009 they were nominated as Best New Artist and they won 2010's Best Alternative Song for "De Donde Vengo Yo." This year all of the focus has been on their new album, Eso Es Lo Que Hay.
(Listen to the songs below)

"Eso Es Lo Que Hay is the album we've always wanted to make," Carlos said. "We added in a whole new style of urban rhythms and we're really proud of the final product."

As they should be, Eso earned noms for Album of the Year and Best Alternative Album. Its track "Calentura" (featuring Tego Calderon) picked up some love in the Record of Year category too.

"Working on 'Calentura' with Tego was phenomenal," Valencia added when describing their Record of the Year track. "Tego is a master of the genre and he taught us a lot."

And in their 12 years together, ChoQuibTown has become a genre trailblazer too. Along with siblings Gloria and Miguel Martinez, Carlos has produced some of Colombia’s most highly-regarded hip-hop tracks. Though he told us that they never dreamed of gaining so much worldwide recognition when they first started out.

And as for what's next? Valencia was still keeping hush hush on ChoQuibTown's future album plans, but he did say that they have several new songs that are ready to be recorded.

"Right now we’re mostly working on the promotion of Eso Es Lo Que Hay," he said. "We have a lot of songs ready though and when the time comes, we'll go back in the studio and start working again."

Look for ChoQuibTown to be front and center at the Latin Grammys on November 15!
