Lonnie Dell Norton, University Of Utah Employee, Accused Of Kidnapping, On-Campus Rape

An employee at the University of Utah has been arrested on a host of charges, including aggravated kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault, after he allegedly kidnapped a woman and then raped her on campus.

Lonnie Dell Norton, 49, was the director of College Computing in the College of Humanities at the university. On Sunday, Norton allegedly kidnapped a woman at gunpoint from her home, drove to her to campus where he raped her. Police say Norton knew his victim, who had gotten a restraining order against him in October.

According to the Salt Lake Tribune:

The woman told investigators that Norton duct-taped her head and mouth and forced her into his vehicle at gunpoint. He allegedly drove her to a building at the University of Utah campus, where he removed the duct tape and then pointed a handgun at her. He allegedly threatened to kill her and then kill himself.

Norton faces eight charges related to the crime, three of them first-degree felonies.
