A 3-week-old kitten stuck inside an Abraham Lincoln statue for three days was rescued by firefighters over the weekend.
The tiny kitten got stuck inside the Lincoln statue at the Presidents Hall of Fame in Clermont, Fla., reported WKMG, a CBS affiliate that recorded the live rescue. "I dont see how a little kitten, a 3-week old kitten could have gotten up there," Daniel Davis of the Humane Society told the station. "It couldn't crawl up there."
The kitten's muffled meows could be heard by staffers at the Presidents Hall of Fame, according to Yahoo! News' The Sideshow.
On Sunday afternoon, the Humane Society and Minneola Fire Department drilled a hole in the statue and rescued the cat, who was later named "Abe," according to WKMG. The museum's curator hopes to adopt the rescued feline.
Abe's story is not the only animal rescue to happen recently.
In early October, a dog survived an 11-mile ride from Massachusetts to Rhode Island after being hit by a car and wedged into in the grille.
In addition, dozens of animals have been rescued in areas ravaged by Hurricane Sandy. Actress Denise Richards, for example, recently adopted a puppy from the North Shore Animal League in Long Island, N.Y., after she visited the area to volunteer.
