Parenting Perfectionists: From Supermom To Nervous Breakdown

Tameka McFaul went from a severely depressed mother to CEO of her own company, Driven Dream Girls. On a segment for HuffPost Live, she shared with host Nancy Redd how trying to be a supermom stressed her out. McFaul, who married her high school sweetheart, put pressure on herself to do it all and eventually had a breakdown after losing her job.

“I just felt as a mom that I wasn’t doing my part,” she said. “I think that’s where the depression came in. So it was just like hitting the pavement and going to interview after interview. And I think life just started taking a toll on me. That’s when the depression took a hold of me.”

Redd and McFaul were joined by actress Pamela Bowen, Erin Cox, author of “One Hot Mama,” and Dr. Heather Harrison, author of “The Mommy Psychologist.”
