Harry Osborn In 'Amazing Spider-Man 2' May Be Played by Sam Claflin, Eddie Redmayne

Sam Claflin, Eddie Redmayne, Douglas Booth and Boyd Holbrook are doing screen tests to play Harry Osborn in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2." Those are the names tossed around by THR, which just last week revealed that actors like Dane DeHaan, Alden Ehrenreich and Brady Corbet were under consideration for the coveted role. Apparently, in the course of testing, Sony and director Marc Webb decided to go in a different direction with the character, eschewing the dark-and-brooding types for actors with more "athleticism and good looks." (Sorry, Dane DeHaan!)

If that new short list seems a bit odd, that's because it somewhat is: None of the actors mentioned have any deep ties to Sony, a detail that seems important when considering "The Amazing Spider-Man." Both Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone were Sony veterans before being cast in "The Amazing Spider-Man" (Garfield starred in "The Social Network," while Stone made "Superbad," "Zombieland" and "Easy A" for Sony), and Jamie Foxx, in talks to play the villain, stars in the Sony film "White House Down." The studio seems to like casting actors it knows -- Shailene Woodley, playing Mary Jane Watson in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," not withstanding.

There's also the matter of Claflin's schedule. The 26-year-old actor already has a franchise: He was cast as Finnick in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" and will also appear in "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay." This, of course, on top of his role in "Snow White and the Huntsman," which could get a sequel.

Redmayne would be an interesting choice as well: The 30-year-old actor, a Tony-award winner, is most famous for his role in "My Week With Marilyn." He also stars as Marius in "Les Miserables."
