LeAnn Rimes, Eddie Cibrian: Singer Opens Up About Guilt Over Extra-Marital Affair In 'What Have I Done'

LeAnn Rimes Opens Up About Divorce In New Song

In LeAnn Rimes' new song "What Have I Done," released Tuesday on iTunes, the country singer opens up about the guilt she harbored after cheating on then-husband Dean Sheremet with her "Northern Lights" co-star Eddie Cibrian in 2009.

The first verse begins, "Oh my love, what have I done? / I shot an arrow at your heart that I can't take back / When I said you were my first love, but you are not my last."

Rimes told Katie Couric in October that Sheremet "probably knew what [the song] was about before I did."

In the interview, she also described the aftermath of the cheating scandal and accompanying media scrutiny as "very, very difficult."

"I wouldn't wish it on anyone ... and especially in the public eye to go through all of it," she said. "I made my choices and I'm living with them. I also have learned from them and I've talked about this so much. But I know that I'm not the only person that goes through this. There's so many that do."

In the wake of Rimes' publicized extra-marital affair with Cibrian, Sheremet -- her husband of nearly eight years -- filed for divorce in December 2009. Their split was finalized in June 2010. Rimes and Cibrian tied the knot in April 2011.
