Japanese Handmade Mochi Makers Are Intense (VIDEO)

We'd heard how tough it is to hand-make mochi, but we didn't know it would look so crazy!

Mochi, the glutinous rice cake that envelopes so many kinds of Japanese desserts has been on our minds a lot lately. First we fell in love with the mochi making machine. Then we delved into all the ways mochi can be stuffed, shaped and molded. We'd heard the legends about how tough it is to make handmade mochi, but we didn't know it would look so crazy!

When YouTube user Celloshredder took a trip to Japan, they snapped this video of some street-side confectioners going to town on a ball of mochi dough. Now we believe the rumors. This stuff is intense.

We shudder to think what would happen if guy number two accidentally left his hand in the way of guy number one. Now we believe the rumors. Handmade mochi really takes a lot of work!
