30 Days Of LGBT Holiday Giving: Give A Gift To Gay Men's Health Crisis

For the rest of the holiday season, in lieu of a traditional gift guide, we'll be featuring a different LGBT organization for our "30 Days Of LGBT Holiday Giving." Check back tomorrow for a look at another incredible group that's working tirelessly on behalf of the LGBT community and that could use your help (and a donation to them would make the perfect gift!), and our slideshow below will grow everyday with new pictures sent from these outstanding organizations.

Back in the '80s when HIV/AIDS was being labeled the "gay cancer," six gay men and their friends met to talk about the issue and how money could be raised for research. This informal gathering inspired the beginning of the Gay Men's Health Crisis in 1982, and since then, the New York-based organization has become "the world's first and leading provider of HIV/AIDS prevention, care and advocacy."

With World AIDS Day being this Saturday, Dec. 1, GMHC will be hosting several events before, on and after this Saturday all around New York City. These events include free HIV testing sites, an art exhibition featuring works by artists living with HIV/AIDS and a candlelight vigil, honoring those who lost their lives due to AIDS.

For more information about GMHC, the events they're organizing for World AIDS Day, and how you can donate to them this holiday season and beyond, visit their website and find them on Twitter, @GMHC, and Facebook.
