With the holiday upon us, you’re sure to be hanging decorations throughout the home. And a lot of these activities require good old hammers and nails. Unfortunately, these two tools can lead to a pretty nasty injury if you miss the metal and accidentally hit your hand. Luckily, Real Simple found an easy way to protect your fingers while hammering.

All you have to do is slip a typical hair comb onto the nail. This little device will hold it in place and you can easily and safely bang the nail without having to worry about a smashed digit.

We wanted to share this little tip because there’s nothing that can ruin a happy time such as hanging lights or garland with your family quite like a hit to the hand.
