Stephen Colbert To Bill O'Reilly: Operation Killing 'Killing Kennedy' Is On (VIDEO)

WATCH: Colbert Launches New War Against O'Reilly

The Colbert Report

Stephen Colbert launched a new campaign against Bill O'Reilly on Thursday night, imploring viewers to help him beat the Fox News host on the New York Times bestseller list.

Colbert devoted some time to mocking the many top 10 countdown lists put out by news outlets at the end of the year. Then, he turned his attention to his book "America Again," which has been on the New York Times bestseller list for eight weeks in a row.

He noted, however, that he is trailing Bill O'Reilly's book "Killing Kennedy" and that there are "no friends" amongst rivals on the list: in October, O'Reilly joked to Jon Stewart that his next book would be "Killing Colbert."

Colbert reacted fiercely on Thursday night. He took a homemade shrine of O'Reilly out from under his desk and blasted it with fire extinguisher.

"Alright nation, this shit is on," he said, announcing "Operation Killing 'Killing Kennedy.'" He ordered viewers to buy his book and help him top O'Reilly on the bestseller list. "Let's get it done in one week and rock it to the top!" he proposed. "And if that rocket happens to go right up Bill O'Reilly's ass, then Merry Christmas."
