Obama Extends Congratulations To Prince William, Kate Middleton Amid News Of Royal Baby

President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama offered congratulations to Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton, on Monday, following news that the royal couple is expecting a baby.

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney delivered the Obamas' statement during his daily briefing, hours after news of the pregnancy broke.

“We extend our congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the welcome news out of London that they are having their first child,” Carney read.

Buckingham Palace confirmed Middleton's pregnancy on Monday, following news that she'd been admitted to the hospital for Hyperemesis Gravidarum, a "very acute morning sickness, which requires supplementary hydration and nutrients."
