Grover Norquist criticized President Barack Obama Tuesday, saying he "overplayed his hand" in the fiscal cliff negotiations because he thinks "somebody made him king."
"Obama overplayed his hand,” Norquist said on MSNBC's "NOW With Alex Wagner." “He’s doing it again, just as he did in 2008. He thought that the country had given him a blank sheet of paper to work on. He did the stimulus spending. He went from 70 percent support down to below 50. He lost the house."
"Now [Obama] gets reelected with less strength... and the Republicans have the House, and he thinks somebody made him king," Norquist continued. "He's going to have more taxes, more spending, and more regulations."
Norquist isn't the only conservative criticizing Obama's latest proposal. Boehner called Obama's plan a "la-la land offer" as he and the GOP made a counter-offer on Monday.
"After the election I offered to speed this up by putting revenue on the table and unfortunately the White House responded with their la-la land offer that couldn't pass the House, couldn't pass the Senate and it was basically the president's budget from last February," Boehner said.
Norquist has recently taken heat over his anti-tax pledge from some Republicans who are open to breaking their promise not to raise taxes under any circumstances, including Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.). The Americans for Tax Reform President has vowed to fight back against those looking to get out of the pledge, saying his group would "certainly highlight who has kept their commitment and who hasn't."
