Holidays Post-Divorce: How To Deal (VIDEO)

Navigating Your First Holiday After A Split

HuffPost Live host Alicia Menendez has her own memories of the holidays after her parents divorced, and she was joined in remembering that first holiday season post-divorce on Tuesday by Joanie Winberg and Zoe Bergeal.

Winberg's first holiday season post-divorce was rough — "I had a lot of tears that night," she said — but her family adapted, and her children discovered the appealing side of the split.

"They liked the idea of having two Christmases, all of a sudden they had double the gifts," she said.

Multiple divorces and remarriages in Bergeal's family led to her visiting four holiday celebrations.

"It's exhausting. I know it sounds terribly spoiled, but I unwrap so many presents" she said. "The holidays are a marathon."
