Hilary Farr From HGTV's 'Love It Or List It' Shares Surprising Design And DIY Tips (VIDEO)

Definitely do not try these alone.

If you're a fan of beautiful design, peeking inside exclusive real estate and some healthy competition, HGTV's 'Love It Or List It' is on your must-watch list. And, of course, we TiVo it as much as possible. We have to admit that we get the biggest kick out of the competitive yet entertaining banter between designer Hilary Farr and realtor David Visentin.

On each episode, the pair meets with homeowners whose home is no longer filling all of their needs. The two battle it out, as they try to convince the family that they should either remodel their current space or move to a new home. Yikes! And we are not the only ones who love the show -- apparently it's one of our Secretary of State's faves too. So we were thrilled when Farr appeared on HuffPost Live and gave us some valuable insight about designing and all things DIY.

The most helpful takeaway? Which DIYs we should NOT attempt ourselves. Although electrical and plumbing work may be obvious, Farr also suggests hiring a professional for tasks like installing wallpaper and wood floors. Who knew?

Watch the video above to hear more of Farr's sound design advice and click through our slideshow of other DIYs you shouldn't tackle alone.
