Death Star Project Petition On White House Website Obtains More Than 25,000 Signatures, White House Obligated To Respond

Well, it looks like the Dark Side of the Force is strong within the White House website thanks to a Longmont, Colorado man who set up a petition requesting to "secure resources and funding" for a real-life "Death Star" at the White House's website surpassing its signature goal this week. To which Darth Vader would clearly respond, "You don't know the power of the Dark Side!"

At the time of publishing, the petition started by "John D" obtained more than 27,000 signatures. It needed to reach 25,000 signatures by Dec. 14 in order to receive an official response from the White House.

Posted on Nov. 14, the petition reads:

Secure resources and funding, and begin construction of a Death Star by 2016.

Those who sign here petition the United States government to secure funding and resources, and begin construction on a Death Star by 2016.

By focusing our defense resources into a space-superiority platform and weapon system such as a Death Star, the government can spur job creation in the fields of construction, engineering, space exploration, and more, and strengthen our national defense.

The goal of the petition is to begin construction of a real-life Death Star by 2016, just one year after Disney projects that it may release "Star Wars: Episode VII" in 2015.

The fictional Death Star from the "Star Wars" movies was a moon-sized space station which was capable of destroying a single planet with an energy beam.
