Michigan Flu: Two Child Deaths Recorded

Flu Outbreak Claims Lives Of Two Children

(DETROIT) -- It's still early in the flu season but Michigan has already recorded two child deaths as a result of the flu.

Michigan's Department of Community Health has reported that last week there were two pediatric influenza-associated deaths. One of the deaths occurred in southwestern Michigan while the other death was in central Michigan, according to The Detroit News.

"At this point, we don't have the ages or exact counties where the deaths occurred," MDCH spokeswoman Angela Minicuci told the newspaper. "It's unusual to have this many cases this early in the season. Usually reports of the flu peaks in February; to have this many cases by the end of December is highly unusual."
