'Wives With Beehives': 50s Lifestyle So They Don't 'Whore Around'?

There's a nostalgia in entertainment about the 1950s, and especially on television. The worldview presented via the black-and-white images sent across the country painted a picture of a simpler time, when gender roles in the home were well defined and every episode concluded with a happy ending. TLC's "Wives With Beehives" spotlights several women who are living their lives trying to embody that idealized reality in the modern era.

"A man should be a man and a woman should be a woman, and lately that’s not happening," Amber said.

Shelby agreed, but had an even more extreme reason for embracing this new way of living. "The '50s lifestyle has helped my marriage because my husband knows he can trust me," she explained. "I’m not going to go out to clubs without him and whore around."

Instead, these wives stay at home, cook, clean and take care of the kids while their husbands go to work every day safe in the knowledge that their wives haven't taken it upon themselves to go out and "whore around."

What do they think modern wives are like?
