The Oscars honored "Lincoln," "Argo" and "Zero Dark Thirty," among other films, with Academy Awards nominations on Thursday.
Actress Emma Stone and director Seth MacFarlane made the announcement. The 85th annual Academy Awards will take place on Feb. 24; MacFarlane will host the ceremony.
As expected, "Lincoln," "Argo" and "Zero Dark Thirty" will compete for Best Picture along with "Silver Linings Playbook," "Les Miserables," "Django Unchained," "Life of Pi," "Amour" and "Beasts of the Southern Wild."
In the Best Actor category, Daniel Day-Lewis received an Oscar nomination for his performance as Abraham Lincoln in Lincoln. Other actors singled out were Hugh Jackman ("Les Miserables"), Denzel Washington ("Flight"), Joaquin Phoenix ("The Master") and Bradley Cooper ("Silver Linings Playbook").
In the Supporting Actor category, prior winners Tommy Lee Jones ("Lincoln"), Alan Arkin ("Argo"), Robert De Niro ("Silver Linings Playbook"), Philip Seymour Hoffman ("The Master") and Christoph Waltz ("Django Unchained") will all compete.
Jessica Chastain ("Zero Dark Thirty") and Jennifer Lawrence ("Silver Linings Playbook") lead the Best Actress category. They're joined by Naomi Watts ("The Impossible"), Emmanuelle Riva ("Amour") and Quvenzhane Wallis ("Beasts of the Southern Wild"). Wallis, at 9 years old, is the youngest actress to ever receive an Oscar nomination; Riva is the oldest nominee.
Anne Hathaway ("Les Miserables"), Sally Field ("Lincoln"), Helen Hunt ("The Sessions"), Amy Adams ("The Master") and Jacki Weaver ("Silver Linings Playbook") were nominated for Best Supporting Actress.
"Lincoln" received the most Oscar nominations with 12.
The Oscars are voted on by members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences; more information on the voting process is available at the Academy's website. For what it's worth, the Golden Globes -- which take place on Jan. 13 -- are not voted on by members of the industry, but by the Hollywood Foreign Press.
