Seth MacFarlane and Emma Stone announced Academy Award nominations for 2013 on Thursday, setting the stage for cinema's biggest night.

Heavy pre-announcement favorites like "Zero Dark Thirty," "Lincoln," and "Les Miserables," will compete for Best Picture along with "Django Unchained," "Argo," "Life of Pi," "Amour," "Silver Linings Playbook" and "Beasts of the Southern Wild."

The race for Best Director includes Steven Spielberg ("Lincoln"), Michael Haneke ("Amour"), Benh Zeitlin ("Beasts of the Southern Wild"), Ang Lee ("Life of Pi) and David O. Russell ("Silver Linings Playbook").

Best Actor also sees a strong cast of nominees with Daniel Day-Lewis ("Lincoln"), Hugh Jackman ("Les Miserables"), Bradley Cooper ("Silver Linings Playbook"), Denzel Washington ("Flight") and Joaquin Phoenix ("The Master") all grabbing nominations.

The Best Actress category includes Jennifer Lawrence ("Silver Linings Playbook"), Jessica Chastain ("Zero Dark Thirty"), Naomi Watts ("The Impossible"), Emmanuelle Riva ("Amour") and Quvenzhane Wallis ("Beasts of the Southern Wild").

The Oscars will take place Feb. 24 in Los Angeles. MacFarlane will host the awards broadcast.

Winners are chosen by members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, a group made up of working professionals in cinema. More information on the voting process is available at the Academy's website. The Golden Globes -- which take place this Sunday -- are voted on by the Hollywood Foreign Press (Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are hosting the Globes).

A full list of nominees will be added to this post once they're all announced. A live-blog of Oscars season is available below, as is a gallery of those honored. Be sure to head back to HuffPost Entertainment for coverage of all things awards.
