El conjunto de Barcelona sacó una importante victoria del estadio de La Rosaleda ante el Málaga por 3-1 en la Liga BBVA, que lo llevó a romper el récord de puntos al término de una primera vuelta, luego de arribar a 55 unidades, tres más que en la campaña 2010-11 del mismo cuadro culé (52), pero bajo las órdenes del timonel Pep Guardiola.
Además, con el gol conseguido por el astro argentino Lionel Messi, éste llegó a nueve partidos consecutivos haciéndolo, por lo que se encuentra a uno de empatar la marca del portugués Cristiano Ronaldo con el Real Madrid, después de conseguirlo en 10 encuentros.
Desde el silbatazo inicial, el cuadro del Málaga se plantó bien en el terreno de juego y, a pesar de que no tuvo mucho tiempo el balón, fue atrevido y no dejó hacer mucho al Barcelona, que en los primeros 15 minutos llegó muy poco, destacando solo una llegada entre Iniesta y Messi, que el portero logró resolver sin problema alguno.
Sin embargo, al minuto 18 la escuadra local tuvo un descuido de su jugador Jeremy Toulalan que le costó la primera anotación, luego de que el mediocampista retrocediera el balón a su portero y se lo regalara a Messi, quien no tuvo problemas para quitarse al arquero y mandar al fondo.
Pareció que el gol distrajo el buen planteamiento del equipo local, pues en los siguientes 10 minutos pudo haber caído el segundo en los botines de Cesc Fábregas y Lionel Messi; sin embargo, la zaga malaguista se fajó bien y evitó la caída de su portería.
Al final de los primeros 45 minutos, Málaga echó a su terreno de juego al conjunto blaugrana, pero tuvo muy pocos arribos, los cuales llegaron en los botines de Isco (35') y Roque Santa Cruz (37'), pero no pasaron a mayores para el arquero Víctor Valdés.
Para el segundo tiempo, Málaga siguió presionando al cuadro culé desde su terreno de juego, pero en un pase magistral de Messi sobre Fábregas al 49', los blaugranas consiguieron el segundo gol, luego de que Cesc quedó solo frente al portero y con gran definición mandó la pelota al fondo de las redes.
Barcelona empezó a controlar las acciones, no obstante al ímpetu del cuadro local por tratar de acortar las distancias, pero fue el conjunto visitante el que estuvo más cerca del tercero que Málaga del primero, por lo que el tiempo se le empezó a acabar al cuadro del timonel Manuel Pellegrini.
Y después de tanta presión, al 81' el ingresado Thiago Alcántara logró el tercer tanto para el equipo de Tito Vilanova, luego de recibir la esférica en un saque de banda por el lado derecho, la controló y se la llevó a la media luna para sacar escopetazo de zurda para vencer a Caballero.
Ya en la parte final, Málaga consiguió por medio de la pelota parada el gol del descuento (88'), luego de un tiro libre fuera del área grande, ejecutado de zurda a la perfección por el ingresado Diego Buonanotte, por lo que el marcador quedó sentenciado 3-1.
