'Pete Rose: Hits And Mrs.': Intimate Look Into Baseball Legend's Life, Or Plea For Cooperstown? (VIDEO)

'Pete Rose: Hits And Mrs.': Plea For Baseball Hall Of Fame?

Disgraced baseball legend Pete Rose is appearing in a new reality series on TLC. Rose said he wanted to do "Pete Rose: Hits and Mrs." to show America what he's really like. Many critics, though, seem to think it's a blatant appeal to have his lifetime ban lifted so he can get into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.

There was certainly plenty of talk about past regrets Rose has regarding the betting that led to his ban. "I wish I could wake up tomorrow and the gambling deal never happened," he said. He spoke of wishing that he could get a second chance.

The San Francisco Chronicle called the show "a full-on appeal … to lift the suspension and make Rose eligible for Cooperstown." Newsday seemed to take it that way as well, writing, "There may be worse ways to seek reversal of a lifetime ban (and ultimately installation in Cooperstown) than starring in a six-part TLC reality series, but for the moment, I can't think of one."

Will it work -- whether it's Rose's intention or not? Only time will tell. "Pete Rose: Hits and Mrs." continues on Sundays at 10 p.m. EST on TLC.
