'The Twelve Tribes Of Hattie' Review Oprah Wishes She'd Given (VIDEO)

WATCH: The Book Review Oprah Wishes She'd Given

The latest "Oprah's Book Club 2.0" selection, The Twelve Tribes of Hattie, is a book of firsts. First-time author Ayana Mathis' novel had Oprah hooked by the first chapter -- and now Ayana says that one review of her buzz-generating book was a new kind of compliment.

In this "Super Soul Sunday" clip, Oprah and Ayana sit down and discuss the reviews the book has received. The writing is "superb, if I do say so myself," says Oprah. "What's the most surprising thing somebody said to you about the book?"

"It's a great, surprising thing," Ayana says. "There was a review that was done by a woman who I think must be a great writer, named Donna Seaman. She did a review for Booklist. And one of the ways she described the book... she said that it was about the complexities of backbone. I mean, what a phrase. And it is, actually. I would've never, ever thought to put it in that way. It was really an astonishing, beautiful thing to say."

"Whoa, wish I had said that," says Oprah. "Boy, that's exactly what it is!"
