New York Gun Legislation Leads The Charge In Assault Weapon Restriction (CARTOON)

CARTOON: New York Takes First Place In Gun Control Action

The state of New York took a leap ahead of Washington, D.C., passing the nation's toughest gun legislation since the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Conn. last month.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the bill into law less than one hour after it passed in the Legislature.

"Common sense can win," Cuomo said. "You can overpower the extremists with intelligence and with reason and with common sense."

Cartoonist Kevin Eason hails the Empire state for leading the charge in gun control. While Washington grapples with the struggles of bipartisan politics, New York demonstrated a sense of urgency, earning a blue ribbon from Eason.

What do you think? Is New York a model example for other states and for Washington? Does the state deserve a blue ribbon for its measures on gun control? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
