Ebony Magazine Covers: Honoring John H. Johnson On His 94th Birthday

PHOTOS: Our Favorite Ebony Magazine Covers

Happy Birthday John H. Johnson! Today would have marked the businessman and publisher's 94th birthday.

As a founder of Johnson Publishing Company, the Arkansas City-native was a trailblazer in the African-American community, representing the epitome of a man who truly pulled himself up from his bootstraps. Johnson made history with his success in publishing and his publications gave life to an aspect of black culture that had, thus far, remained unknown to the world at large.

Perhaps no other African-American magazine has served as such a snapshot of black history as Johnson's legendary Ebony magazine. Since its creation, Ebony has served as a window into the most prevalent issues within black politics, entertainment and culture.

In honor of Johnson's birthday, we have rounded up just a few of our favorite covers of the historical magazine. Take a look at the slideshow below, and let us know if we missed any covers in the comments section.
