'Mama' Scares Up A Box Office Win

Horror movie "Mama" upset the critically acclaimed "Zero Dark Thirty" and "Silver Linings Playbook" at the box office this weekend. The Guillermo del Toro film opened to a $28.1 million weekend, playing at 2,647 theaters. "Mama" has received mixed reviews, earning a B- CinemaScore.

Oscar contenders "Zero Dark Thirty" and "Silver Linings Playbook" took the number two and number three spots, respectively. "Zero Dark Thirty" made $17.6 million across 2,946 theaters. The Jessica Chastain movie has made $55.9 million to date. "Silver Linings Playbook" made $11.3 million across 2,523 theaters bringing its domestic total $55.3 million.

Coming in at number four was Ryan Gosling's "Gangster Squad." The crime movie made $9.1 million across 3,103 theaters. The movie has made $32.2 million since its debut. Mark Wahlberg's "Broken City" took the number five spot. The movie opened this weekend at 2,620 theaters and made $9 million.

Noticeably absent from the list is Arnold Schwarzenegger's "The Last Stand." The action movie had a rough opening, making $6.3 million this weekend across 2,913 theaters. This total gave "The Last Stand" the number ten spot.
