Caron Butler's Block Hits Referee In Face During Clippers-Thunder Game (VIDEO)

Caron Butler Takes Out Ref With Rejection

Referee Derek Richardson was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Thunder center Serge Ibaka rushed a shot from the baseline as the shot clock was winding down against the Clippers on Tuesday night. But he didn't notice Caron Butler right behind him setting up for a rejection.

Butler swatted the ball out of bounds, right where Richardson was standing. The ball unexpectedly hit the official in the face causing him to fall down on the hardwood. The ball bounced off Richardson's head and right into the hands of Russell Westbrook at the elbow.

The announcers wondered aloud whether they should have played on, but the ref was clearly standing out of bounds.

Perhaps the best part of the video was Richardson, from the ground, quickly signaling that the possession belonged to the Thunder. He then got back to his feet, smiled and appeared to tell the players that he was okay.
