J Dilla Record Collection Items Put For Sale On Ebay By Mother Maureen Yancey

Fans of late musician and producer J Dilla (nee James Yancey) now have an opportunity to own a piece of his record collection.

The Detroit artist's mother Maureen Yancey (also known as Ma Dukes), is selling albums owned by her son in a series of weekly Ebay auctions.

Each album, chosen by Yancey, comes with a numbered, signed certificate. The statement on the official J Dilla website says they plan for a possible online registry, depending on interest, where fans can list their record along with any tracks it may appear on as a sample.

The Dilla collection was uncovered last year when a suburban Detroit record store owner was sold a set of thousands of records last spring. UHF Records owner Jeff Bubeck realized the records, found in a local storage unit, belonged to Dilla. He eventually returned the collection to Yancey after difficulties getting in touch.

"It was overwhelming to see this handwriting again and to see how he marked his records, with his silver marker," Yancey told AllHipHop.com in April. "That was his favorite color, the silver marker."

According to the site, Yancey said Dilla planned to sell over 20,000 records from his collection before his death from lupus and a blood disease in 2006. He was 32.

Part of the collection was stored in the locker acquired by Bubeck. When Yancey went to Los Angeles to take care of Dilla before his death, she lost track of the storage unit.

According to the Brooklyn Vegan music blog, Dilla's recordings, test pressings and other personal items won't be sold and are being saved for a possible future hip hop museum and releases.

For now, the albums appear to have sold out on Ebay -- keep checking next week.

Detroit is also preparing to honor the hip-hop artist with the second-annual Dilla Day concert on Feb. 9 at the Fillmore Detroit, headlined by Talib Kweli and Royce da 5'9".
