'The Vampire Diaries': Stefan Moves On From Elena

Stefan made a statement in this week's "The Vampire Diaries" that cut Elena to the core. He told her, "You don’t know what I look look like when I’m not in love with you."

The same could be said of the viewers. And this cold and uncaring Stefan seems more like the Ripper Stefan we've heard so much about, and seen glimpses of throughout the years. But is it genuine? After coldly locking his brother in the basement and dismissing Elena, Stefan did go off for an aggressive hookup with Rebekah. Maybe he's lying to himself?

There was good reason for locking Damon up, though. He'd been compelled to kill Jeremy by Klaus and Rebekah's brother, Kol. And since Kol is an Original, Damon simply doesn't have the strength to ignore the compulsion. This means as long as Kol is alive, Damon will be trying to kill Jeremy.

So Elena came up with a brilliant idea to solve both problems. In order to find the cure for vampirism, they need to finish the Hunter's mark on Jeremy's body. That won't happen until he kills enough vampires. But if he kills an Original, then all the vampires that Original created will die. So all Jeremy has to do is kill Kol. Not that Originals have proven very easy to kill, but at least it's a plan.

Tune in to see the plan come together on "The Vampire Diaries," Thursdays at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
