Beloved Wives Day Celebrated In Japan, Husbands Shout How Much They Love Their Wives (VIDEO)

WATCH: Japanese Men Declare Their Love In VERY Public Way

When you're in love, sometimes you just want to let the whole world know.

Lovestruck Japanese men did just that Tuesday night in honor of Beloved Wife Day, an annual event designed to encourage normally reserved men to show affection for their wives, ABC reported Wednesday. Men went onstage at a Tokyo park and shouted adorations of love for their wives.

"I'm sorry that I've gained weight over the last seven years. But that's because the meals you cook are so delicious!" one man yelled, according to Reuters.

“Let’s hug each other a lot tonight!” another man screamed, according to ABC. “Thank you!”

Kiyotaka Yamana told Reuters he founded the holiday five years ago to urge Japanese men to show their affection more explicitly. The holiday's name, "Beloved Wife Day" or "Aisai," is a play on the Japanese words for one and 31. Participants must publicly declare their love by 8 p.m. on January 31, then return home to spend time with their wives.

Although the men participating in Beloved Wives Day may ordinarily be shy about expressing their feelings, a 2012 study found that at least 76 percent of men say "I love you" to their significant other first.
