22 Killed In Bus Tragedy

United Arab Emirates police said Monday that at least 22 people had been killed and more than 20 people were injured in a road collision that involved a bus and a truck that had been hauling gravel.

According to Reuters, the bus was carrying 46 migrant workers when it was struck in the town of Al Ain on Sunday by the truck, whose driver had "lost control of his vehicle." The truck reportedly landed "on top of the bus," trapping its passengers.

The Xinhua News Agency, citing local media, reported that the truck may have lacked proper brakes.

The crash victims are believed to have been citizens of Bangladesh, India and Pakistan, according to Bangladesh's bdnews24.com.

Citing World Health Organization data, Reuters reports that the "per capita death toll on UAE roads is among the highest in the world."
