Beijing Snow Means Less Pollution And More Winter Fun (PHOTOS)

The beginning of 2013 has been marked by dangerously high levels of air pollution in Beijing, with the pollution level measuring 40 times the recommended safety level at one point in the past two weeks, the Atlantic reported.

Although residents had been advised to stay indoors to avoid the smog, they were given a respite thanks to Sunday's snowfall that helped relieve the pollution. By day, the weather prompted locals and visitors to flock to frozen Houhai Lake, where they skidded along the ice on "ice chairs" and "ice bikes." By night, the area looked particularly serene thanks to its new white blanket.
