Sony World Photography Awards Shortlist For 2013 Announced And The Results Are Stunning (PHOTOS)

World Photography Awards Will Blow You Away

Yesterday the World Photography Organisation revealed the shortlist for the Professional, Open and Youth categories of the 2013 Sony World Photography Awards. This year, the competition received over 122,000 entries -- the most submissions to date.

In a statement, World Photographer Organisation Creative Director Astrid Merget referred to the competition as the hunt for the "best international contemporary photography from across the world." After seeing the results, we can say with certainty the shortlist achieves its goal. The selected photographs capture the diverse, strange and beautiful experience of living on earth, from a frog dramatically leaping from a predator to Barack and Michelle Obama laughing over ice cream sundaes.

The work of all the shortlisted photographers will show at Somerset House in London from April 26 until May 12 at the Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition. If you can't wait that long, check out a preview of the sunning international photos in the slideshow below. (Trust us, you're going to want to use the fullscreen option on this one.)
