Designer Juan Montoya's House Tour Reveals A Worldly Getaway In New York (PHOTOS)

Colombian-born designer Juan Montoya creates interiors with bold designs, luxurious textures and always intriguing pieces that give his spaces a worldly aesthetic. So it’s no surprise that his own Putnam County, New York abode, featured as a house tour in Veranda’s April issue, combines his South American heritage with the earthy sophistication Montoya is known for in his designs.

Montoya calls his weekend getaway “Formentera” because the terrain resembles the Mediterranean island of the same name. And though the eclectic home embodies Antebellum architecture with its columns and massive acreage, the four-level layout actually takes after Japanese architecture.

We’re particuarlly impressed with how lived-in and relaxed the space looks. For example, his living room consists of textural throws, rustic furniture, piles of books and bright flowers that create an entirely inviting atmosphere.

But interiors aren't this designer's only passion. He talks about his focus on the home's landscaping -- which is an 11-year work in progress. “People are impressed because the house is part of the landscape. I explain that it’s all a work in progress. The property tells me what to do,” he told the magazine.
