Wicker Park Robber Shooting: Alleged Serial Robber Shot, Nabbed At Busy West Side Intersection

Serial Robber Shot, Nabbed In Wicker Park

An alleged serial robber was shot by police just after midnight Wednesday at a busy intersection at the heart of Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood.

According to ABC Chicago, police responded to an armed robbery call at a Subway restaurant near the intersection of Chicago and State in River North and proceeded to chase after the suspect.

The SUV crashed into a parked car near the "six corners" crossing of Milwaukee, North and Damen avenues. DNAinfo Chicago reports that the suspect, after hitting the parked car, put his SUV into reverse and slammed directly into a police car. The SUV advanced toward an officer, who then fired his weapon. The man was taken to Stroger Hospital with a non-life-threatening wound and is being questioned there.

Officers from surrounding districts were called to the scene, creating a traffic jam of nearly 40 police vehicles. This photo, posted to Facebook, shows the dramatic scene. (H/t Chicago Reader.)

Police say the suspect is wanted in more than a dozen recent robberies of convenience stores and restaurants on the city's North Side, according to the Chicago Tribune. Among those is the Monday robbery of another Subway shop located near the Chicago Cultural Center, ABC reports.
