Rick Perry Heckled While Speaking Against Medicaid Expansion

Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) was heckled while speaking in Washington, D.C. on his refusal to expand Medicaid in Texas.

“All of these individuals who want to complain about the state of Texas, God bless ‘em, they’re free to do that," Perry said, according to the Dallas Morning News. "But you are from a state that is leading the nation in so many different arenas."

Protesters stood outside D.C.'s Capitol Hill Club chanting “Rick, Rick, You make me sick!” and “You will never be president," Dallas Morning News reports.

As Perry spoke, protesters reportedly took turns interrupting, continuing to shout as security officers removed them from the room.

"Healthcare is a human right, Governor Perry. Do what is right for Texans,” one protester shouted.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) made headlines this week when he flipped on Medicaid expansion, saying he wants "every Floridian to have access to high-quality health care they can afford." Scott's change of heart did little to sway Perry, whose spokesman told the Texas Tribune "he's not letting on" if other Republicans' choices were causing him to reconsider Medicaid expansion.
