Adele won her first Academy Award on Sunday, as the British singer took home the Oscar for Best Original Song. Adele's "Skyfall" beat out "Before My Time" from "Chasing Ice," "Everybody Needs a Best Friend," from "Ted," "Pi's Lullaby," from "Life of Pi," and "Suddenly" from "Les Miserables."
Adele, who was the favorite for the award, performed "Skyfall" at the 85th annual Academy Awards, just a month after the song won her the Golden Globe award for Best Original Song. "Everybody Needs a Best Friend" was also performed at the show, as Norah Jones gave a strong rendition. "Suddenly" was included in a celebration of musicals of the last decade that also nodded to "Chicago" and "Dreamgirls."
The show also featured a performance by Barbra Streisand. It was announced this week that Kristen Chenoweth and Seth MacFarlance would close the show with a musical number.
At last year's 84th annual Academy Awards, the Best Original Song category was a slim one. "Man or Muppet" from "The Muppets" beat out its only other competitor, "Real in Rio" from "Rio."
The 85th annual Academy Awards were hosted by MacFarlane at Hollywood's Dolby Theatre.
