Eight years ago, Gilberto Santa Rosa says he was in New York feeling abnormally tired, thirsty and hungry, and his hands even started to sweat. He knew something was wrong, so he scheduled an appointment with the doctor.

“My sugar levels were above 400 — normal is around 100,” says the multi-Grammy-Award-winning salsa singer who was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes when he was 42. “The doctor gave me medicine, and thanks to God, they are working well.”
