Harry Reid: 'Obamacare Is Greatest Single Step In Generations'

Lawmakers across Capitol Hill have been marking the third anniversary of the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare, this week.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) made perhaps the boldest declaration on Thursday, calling the law the "greatest single step in generations to help the American people."

He went on to extoll the law's numerous benefits. For example, Obamacare made it illegal to charge women more for health insurance than men based on their gender and to deny coverage for pregnancy and the effects of domestic violence as "pre-existing conditions."

As Reid put it, before Obamacare, women, including his daughter, were essentially born with a pre-existing condition.

"She was born a woman, a girl," he said on the Senate floor. But now, he said, "that's gone."
