'Game Of Thrones' Actor Has Ear Partially Bitten Off

"Game of Thrones" actor Clive Mantle had his ear bitten off during a dispute at a U.K. hotel over the weekend.

The incident occurred in the early morning hours on Sunday at the Newcastle Travelodge in the city of Newcastle upon Tyne in England. Mantle's ear was allegedly bitten off by another hotel guest after a fight erupted over a noise complaint, according to the BBC.

Around 4:30 a.m., the actor, who had just performed in "The Ladykillers" at the Theatre Royal, left his room to ask some loud guests to quiet down, the Mirror reports. When he stepped outside a second time, trouble started.

“That’s when they set about him, and even though he is a big guy they got him on the ground," his agent, Bryn Newton, told the Mirror. "One of them bit the top part of his right ear off. It was savage. Fortunately, someone heard the commotion down the corridor and came out to help him and called hotel management."

Luckily, surgeons at the Royal Victoria Infirmary were able to resew Mantle's bitten ear.

"He is very shaken and shocked by what has happened, you don't expect this kind of thing to happen in a hotel," a spokesperson for the 55-year-old told the BBC. "The part of the ear that was bitten off was found and sewn back on. Mr. Mantle said the police, ambulance and hospital staff were amazing."

According to the Mirror, Mantle is set to see a specialist in Oxford on Tuesday to determine if the resewing was a success. "You don’t expect that sort of thing to happen in that situation," Newton added. “Clive said both men outside his room been drinking heavily, but he could lose his ear, and as an actor, that would mean he cannot make a living."

Mantle has had to suspend his role in "Ladykillers." Jon Bath, who works in production on the show, told arts news site The Stage that the attack was “horrifying and disgusting and has shaken everyone up." They are all awaiting Mantle's recovery.

A 32-year-old man from South Lanarkshire has been charged with wounding with intent.

The British actor appeared in Season 1 of "Game of Thrones" as Greatjon Umber who, E! News notes, had two fingers bitten off in the series. He is best known for playing Dr. Mike Barrett in Britain's "Casualty" from 1988 to 1998.
