Amanda Knox Movie: Could Hayden Panettiere Reprise Her Role For Lifetime?

A Sequel?

Lifetime's Amanda Knox movie starring Hayden Panettiere could see a sequel.

The "Nashville" star played Knox in Lifetime's TV movie, which debuted February 21, 2011 to 2.8 million viewers. "Amanda Knox: Murder On Trial In Italy," which also starred Marcia Gay Harden, depicted the events surrounding Knox's trial for the murder of British exchange student Meredith Kercher.

WIth Italy's highest court overturning the acquittal ruling and ordering a retrial, Panettiere's Lifetime TV movie is back in the spotlight.

While making the movie, Panettiere said she did not form an opinion on Knox's innocence or guilt. "I spent five weeks on this film talking about it, reading everything I could get my hands on, watching all this news footage, and I went so back and forth. I'd go, 'Oh, she's innocent, oh, she's guilty, oh, she's innocent,' and every little amount of new information that I acquired changed my mind," she said. "So I feel like when you just see it from the outside and you don't really research it, but you watch one version of it, then you might have an opinion. But when you really get into it and you really start reading the facts and you really educate yourself about it, it's very difficult to have one. It's very difficult to know."

Panettiere said she wanted to meet Knox, but it never panned out and at the time the interview was conducted, February 2011, she was watching the appeal process closely. In October 2011, Lifetime updated the film after Knox's murder conviction was overturned.

UPDATE: A representative for Lifetime said the network has no plans to reair the TV movie in the immediate future. There are also no plans to produce a sequel at this time.
