Hollywood's Depiction Of Gay Characters: Ira Sachs, Rose Troche And Rich Juzwiak Sound Off

WATCH: Can Hollywood Give Up The Gay Joke?

Acclaimed filmmaker Ira Sachs sounded off on HuffPost Live on mainstream Hollywood's depiction of the gay characters.

Sachs, who is openly gay, joined fellow filmmaker Rose Troche and Gawker's Rich Juzwiak in the conversation, which touched on the type of popular films which primarily feature openly lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) characters in sideline roles, often for comic effect.

"From my perspective as an artist, a lot of what we have to do as individuals is actually create counter-cultural images," Sachs said. "It's always traditionally been a fight to do that."

He went on to note, "I want both to be embraced for my creating something that there's an absence of, but I also recognize that I have to fight as an individual to create that because everything is resisting it."
