Ryan Lochte Explains Why He's Doing A Reality Show On 'Late Show': 'Swimming Awareness' (VIDEO)

Ryan Lochte Wants To Promote 'Swimming Awareness'

"What Would Ryan Lochte Do?" premiered this week, and it certainly got the attention of a lot of critics and media outlets. But was he doing it just to capitalize on his Olympics fame?

Lochte opened up to David Letterman about why he really agreed to do a reality show on "Late Show."

"After the Olympics, people tend to forget about swimming," Lochte said. "I just want to bring swimming into everyone’s living rooms. So, bringing swimming awareness."

So the reality show is about swimming awareness, even though there really isn't a lot of swimming in it. Instead, there's a lot of Ryan saying things that don't make much sense, and don't make him look very bright, according to several critics.

Channel Guide Magazine asked the question right in the title of their recap of the first episode: "Is Ryan Lochte Really Dumb?" Dumb or not, at least it's proving to be entertaining, as Lochte was himself while promoting his new show. The anchors at WTFX couldn't even hold it together after they interviewed him; they were so stunned by some of his answers.

Make your own conclusions about Ryan Lochte's intelligence by watching "What Would Ryan Lochte Do?" every Sunday at 10 p.m. ET on E! and "Late Show with David Letterman" airs every weeknight at 11:35 p.m. ET on CBS.
