5 Hair Routine Stress-Savers For Your Mornings And Nights

No more "bad hair days!"

We feel pretty confident about stepping out without wearing a full face of makeup -- a little mascara and lip gloss can go a long way. But things aren't as simple with our hair.

You've probably read the stories about how much of our self-esteem is tangled up in our strands. And it's clear that we aren't alone. (This woman spent $25,000 on hair weaves!) Factor in how emotionally crippling a "bad hair day" can be, and it's astonishing that we still manage to carry on with our lives.

If you're ready to take the frustration out of your hair routine like we are, start with these five stress-savers from Patrick Melville, celebrity stylist of the Patrick Melville Pipino Salon, and Louise O'Conner, owner of OC61 Salon.

  • Before going to bed, shampoo and condition your hair (so you won't have to rush in the morning). Be sure to invest in a great haircare system that suits your hair type. Leave a little extra conditioner in your hair, as it will nourish and treat your strands overnight. Rinse and style the following day.

  • Braid your hair in multiple sections and sleep in braids. Unravel the braids when you wake up and take a curling iron to freshen up the curls to create sexy, beachy waves.
  • Blow dry hair before bed, then wrap hair into ponytail or low chignon. Wake up and take hair out of ponytail. Spritz dry shampoo at roots to create volume and refresh the look. Quick and easy!
  • After showering in the morning, apply styling glaze along the hairline to control any loose or flyaway hair. Take a Mason Pearson brush and slick hair back into a high ponytail or create a low chignon and secure with bobby pins. You can also tease the ponytail to add texture and make a messy chignon. This look is great to go from day to night.
  • If you're pressed for time to style your hair, put it in a half-up, half-down 'do for a look that's chic but easy to achieve. Finish with a maximum hold product like black 15in1's Miracle Finishing Hair Spray to ensure it stays put all day long.
  • How much time do you spend on your hair each day? The average woman -- or British women who participated in this study -- spend at 294 days styling their hair over a lifetime. Tell us your thoughts in the comments section.

If all else fails, you can never go wrong with a ponytail:
