Viktor Hertz's Pictograms Are Clever Illustrations Packed With Dark Humor

Twisted Pictograms

We know Viktor Hertz as the Swedish artist who made charming pictograms from famous songs and popular films. This year, however, he's embraced a darker aesthetic. The result? Biting pictograms that cleverly address unrest in the modern age.

From a dollar sign with a hanging noose to a work called "Sharpen Up," where a man grinds his head with a pencil sharpener, Hertz cleverly takes on themes of consumption, religion and love. The artist's pictograms delight and disturb us with such dark humor.
