'Happy Endings': Mark-Paul Gosselaar Still Wants To Ruin Max's Life

In the latest batch of "Happy Endings" episodes, Mark-Paul Gosselaar made his bitter return as Chase, the man who'd promised to ruin Max's life. He confronted Max and explained that he'd made this his life mission, but he also realized that Max's life was such a mess already, he wasn't sure how to ruin it.

This revelation put Jane in "fix Max" mode, where she gave him a complete makeover. He wound up assistant manager at a grocery store, and a local hero after he saved a choking reporter. Fearing that Max was behind his quick success, Max self-sabotaged, and wound up in the hospital.

There, he ran into Chase again. Chase hadn't destroyed his life. In fact, Chase had nearly died. But before he could move on, he recommitted to his life's mission of destroying Max.

"I will stop at nothing to lay waste to what you so tragically call your life," he said as he was wheeled out of their shared hospital room.

"That guy is still so cool," Max declared, while the rest of the gang marveled at how well his speech was timed with his exit from the room.

"Do you think he rehearsed that with the nurses before that?" Brad asked.

TV Fanatic liked Gosselaar’s monologue, but loved everyone’s reactions to it even more. The AV Club is hopeful that this won't be the last we see of Chase. "I’d be interested to see if Happy Endings can build on such a nonsensical premise every time he appears," they wrote. "That is, if there is a fourth season. Sob.
