Caroline Kennedy is selling two parcels of land on Martha's Vineyard. Before you get excited at the prospect of owning a piece of history, be warned: Kennedy is no fool. She's selling the land for $45 million.
Martha's Vineyard, a longtime playground for the rich and powerful, is a popular destination for northeasterners in the summer (the Obamas even vacation there). The Boston Herald reports that the two parcels of land make up over 90 acres of prime waterfront real estate, which explains the hefty asking price. Jackie Onassis, the famous matriarch of the Kennedy clan, originally purchased 366 acres of land on the Vineyard in 1978. Caroline lives in what was originally her mother's home on one 106-acre parcel of land.
It's important to remember that it's just land ... building a home is going to cost a pretty penny on top of that already egregious sum. But how many people get to say that Caroline Kennedy is their neighbor?
