'Community' Finale: The Darkest Timeline And Paintball Invade As Jeff's Graduation Looms (VIDEO)

'Community' Finale: Can Darkest Timeline Stop Jeff's Graduation

Jeff Winger finally achieved everything he'd been hoping to achieve at Greendale in the "Community" finale. It was time to graduate. But as the community college didn't have a traditional graduation ceremony, Annie and the Dean concocted one for him that was more similar to a wedding -- with the Human Being standing in for the bride.

And for the first time in four seasons, Jeff was without a speech. "I’m so used to being the guy who can talk his way out of anything, but what do you say when you don’t want a way out? What you all have done for me is indescribable. It’s unbelievable.”

Abruptly, Pierce showed up as well, eager to finally graduate after years and years of college. It was a clever way to sneak in a farewell for Chevy Chase -- who left the show midway through the season -- as well as establish a reason for him to not be around should the show get picked up.

Before the big graduation, though, it was the return of "the darkest timeline" from the benchmark episode "Remedial Chaos Theory." Evil Jeff had crossed the barrier to destroy the happier Jeff in this timeline, but of course the whole thing was really playing out in Jeff's head. It was also an excuse to return paintball to the show. But it was all a feint, as Jeff graduated, leaving a big question mark for the future of the show.

TVLine thought the episode wrapped things up so nicely, that it should just go ahead and be the series finale. But The AV Club was more mixed on that, as they weren't impressed with the episode at all. "Part of me wonders if this episode doesn’t prove that 'Community' should be canceled, and possibly killed with fire, but part of me also thinks a fifth season now must happen, if only so this isn’t the way the whole show ends," they wrote.

NBC has yet to announce the fate of this show, but has its annual upfront presentation on Monday. At the latest, fans should find out its fate by then.
