A drawbridge operator was taken into police custody after a rare collision between a freighter and the bridge early Sunday morning at the border of Detroit and River Rouge.

The 45-year-old woman began lowering the drawbridge on West Jefferson Avenue while a 670-foot ship was passing through on the Rouge River, near Zug Island and the Detroit River. She was taken into custody on suspicion of being intoxicated, U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Justin Westmiller told the Free Press on Sunday.
