Typically, senior class pranksters hang toilet paper from the trees. Some Tennessee teens tried the something similar, only with dead raccoons.
The students, whose names haven't been released, hung the carcasses of four raccoons, two possums and a turtle around the perimeter of Gibbs High School.
In addition, the pranksters use red paint to leave obscene graffiti on the grass.
Knox County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Martha Dooley said the animals appeared to be roadkill that had been dead for some time, WATE-TV reported.
Investigators said they will test the dead animals for rabies and other diseases, according to WBIR-TV.
Gibbs High School principal Lynn Hill said the investigation as to who hung the animals and painted the graffiti is ongoing, but insisted to KnoxNews.com that "it was definitely not racial."
Although he said discipline will be administered, that could be a difficult promise to keep since the seniors he believes did the stunt will graduate on Thursday.
“If we can determine who it was prior to that, I’ll look at board policy and see what we need to do,” he told the website. “If a child has earned a diploma, at some point they will receive it, it just may not be at graduation.”
