John Mayer announced today on his Facebook page that he is back in the studio recording his sixth studio album, adding that he plans to release behind-the-scenes clips of the process each Tuesday. The first video, which you can check out below, shows Mayer toying with an amp, looking over his collection of pedals and picking out a spacey, washed-out lick.

Musically, Mayer seems to be moving towards a more country sound since his last LP, Born and Raised. He recently performed with Brad Paisley at the Academy of Country Music Awards, and told Rolling Stone in a recent issue, "I like a lot of stuff I didn't think I was going to like 10 years ago. That excites me."

He added, "I'm up to four or five songs I think are really cool. There's a song called 'Badge and Gun' that's pure country. I'd like to do a country EP at some point, a smallish record."

Mayer's 2013 comeback kicked off in January when he performed live for the first time in two years after undergoing two rounds of surgery to repair a granuloma in his throat. Mayer is now set for a sprawling summer tour that kicks off July 6th in Milwaukee.
